I spent a brief five days in Tibet during the National Day holiday of 2001. I had some altitude sickness after first arriving, and I was annoyed with the group I was with because they wanted to eat Chinese food and sing karaoke (in other words, do all the stuff they'd normally do back home). I was also dismayed by how much Lhasa was like any other Chinese city. But the trip was still amazing and worth it—you will never feel so close to the sun and sky, or see such massive mountains.
